After apparently emerging from its recent bankruptcy troubles, Relativity Media has announced new release dates for four of its on-the-shelf movies, including the Zach Galifianakis comedy Masterminds and the Kate Beckinsale horror thriller The Disappointments Room, both of which were filmed in North Carolina and are now set to (hopefully) finally arrive in theaters later this year.
Following numerous postponed dates, the current schedule as of today has Masterminds hitting theaters on Sept. 30 (as we previously reported) and The Disappointments Room opening on Nov. 18.
Filmed in and around Asheville and Charlotte, North Carolina and based on a true story that actually happened in Charlotte, Masterminds stars NC native Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers), Kirsten Wiig (Bridesmaids), and Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers).
Formerly titled Loomis Fargo the film tells the story of a real life robbery that took place in Charlotte, North Carolina  in 1997, when David Scott Ghantt, the driver of a Loomis Fargo & Company armored car grabbed $17 million, stuck it in a company van, and drove off with the money, committing the third largest cash robbery in United States history at the time.
Ghantt left the stolen cash with some coworkers and then headed for Mexico where he planned to hide out for a few months until the heat around the heist cooled down. While Ghantt was in hiding, his co-conspirators were supposed to wire him the money, but they instead plotted to have him murdered while blowing through millions of dollars living like rock stars in North Carolina.
All three were eventually arrested less than a year later.
Wilkesboro, North Carolina native Zach Galifianakis will play Ghantt, opposite Owen Wilson as an accomplice.
Kristen Wiig will play the workplace crush of Galifianakis, who uses her feminine wiles to him to join her and her accomplices in their plan to rob a bank vault, but has no plans to link up with him once the deed is done.
Jason Sudeikis plays a hitman in the film.
Masterminds will arrive in theaters on September 30.
Filmed in Greensboro, North Carolina, The Disappointments Room is described as a psychological thriller in the vein of The Shining. Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Total Recall) stars as Dana, a mother of a five-year-old who begins to question her sanity when she starts seeing ghosts and visions of her new house’s bloody past, only to discover a secret room within the attic where unimaginable horrors are accidentally unlocked.
Based on a true story, the plot will follow Dana (Beckinsale) and David (Max Raido), who are looking for a fresh start with their 5-year-old son when they move into their dream house, a beautiful old rural home, with a secret room hidden in the attic. When frightening and unexplainable events lead Dana to discover the long lost key to this room, she accidentally unlocks a host of unimaginable horrors revealing that the house’s past is terrifyingly tied with her own.
Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) also stars, along with newcomers Duncan Joiner and Raleigh, North Carolina native Ella Jones.
The supernatural thriller is directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) and written by Beckinsale’s Underworld co-star Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), who also wrote the very creepy Stoker.
The Disappointments Room will open on November 18.
